Simi Valley Rotary - About our Club

Our club is an award-winning club that was chartered on a Halloween, the 31st of October, 1962. Our sponsor was the Rotary Club of Moorpark. We in turn sponsored two other clubs - The Rotary Club of Rancho Simi (no longer in existence) and the Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise, now one of the strongest and most active clubs in our district.

The emphasis of our club is "Service Above Self" with fun and fellowship. We are the number 2 club in the district, during the past 5 years, in support of the international programs of The Rotary Foundation. We have also been recognized numerous times with district and international awards for distinguished achievements in service.

Our club has "TRADITIONS."

Some of them are:

Red Coats. Many members purchase red blazers to be worn at special club, district or international functions. This identifies the individual(s) as belonging to the Rotary Club of Simi Valley.

Professional Assistants Day. A day is set aside each spring at a regular Tuesday luncheon in which each Rotarian may honor those that make life in the office much easier.

Fifth Tuesday. When a month has five Tuesdays, the fifth may be designated as a "Family Meeting," which may be held in the evening.

Demotion Party. When the President has served their term, a party is planned in their honor. At the party there is a roast of the President before they pass on the gavel. Awards are often given to individual members for outstanding service.

Fines. Raising money can be fun. A member of the club is assigned to be the "Rat Fink" each week, to fine fellow Rotarians for "deeds or misdeeds." The money raised goes to some charity program we support.

Happy Buck. Members have an opportunity to contribute a dollar or more to share a reason why they are happy.

4th of July. We sponsor the 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza for the city of Simi Valley, both as a community service and as a fund-raiser. There is great food and music during the day and after dark...the best fireworks around!

Golf tournament. Our club sponsors an annual golf tournament as a fundraiser. The fun happens each year in early May. Check back for more details on this years event.

Other annual events and fundraisers: A Christmas Angels event, where gifts are purchased and given to underprivileged children, Hands-On Community Service events, Donation of books to the public library to promote literacy....and much more

Student of the Month. A special student, selected by the school, is awarded a Student of the Month plaque in recognition of service, leadership or scholarship.
